Registration for Marathon Relay GB (4 to 21 May 2012)

Intro

Introduction

Welcome to the registration process for Marathon Relay GB in May 2012. If successful, you will be part of a major sporting event for 2012 and part of a World Record Attempt for Distance Relay Running. The current record is 1,923 miles held by the ‘Gillette Phenomenal Tour’ which saw a group of runners relay around the borders of Romania in 2009.

Please note that this is an event and not a race. As such, the rules are simple and straight forward. Details of the route can be found here and you will need to know which leg or legs you are applying for in order to complete the registration process. Timings for the start of each leg will be approximate since this is a relay event – as such, your leg will only start when the runner with the baton from the previous leg finishes.

Entry to RelayGB is £50 for individual runners (£30 for Students/Unemployed), payable on allocation of a RelayGB leg. This money will be used for the administration of RelayGB. Every penny of the funds you raise will be used in researching or providing relief from brain tumours and brain cancer.

The process of selection will be based on the following requirements:
  • Ideally one or two runners will be sub-four marathoners to enable us to stay on schedule. The remaining runners can be of any ability (wheelchair athletes are encouraged to apply but please note that not all sections will be suitable).
  • Your willingness to raise a minimum of £500 for Brain Tumour UK (this event after all is aiming to raise a minimum of £½M).
  • Your willingness to run in alternative legs if your first choice preference is unavailable.
  • Your willingness to run additional legs if there is availability.

Entries are also encouraged from teams who will 'relay within the relay'. The teams can be of any size and co-ordination will be down to the main contact who registers on behalf of the team in the following process. Entry fee for teams is £80 per team (regardless of the numbers in the team).
